What does Low-E mean?

[Low-E is short for low emissivity.  It is a coating that is microscopically thin, virtually invisible, metal or metallic layer deposited on a window or skylight glazing surface primarily to reduce the U-factor by suppressing radiant heat flow.  The result usually yields energy savings.  For more information, please visit the NFRC.]

Do I need Argon gas?

[Argon gas is an inert, nontoxic gas used in insulating glass units to reduce heat transfer.  Although the energy savings is not as significant as Low-E, there is some advantage over a standard air filled cavity.]

What is STC?

[STC is an acronym for Sound Transmission Class.  It is an integer-number rating (in decibels) of how well a building partition attenuates airborne sound. In the USA, it is widely used to rate interior partitions, ceilings/floors, doors, windows and exterior wall configurations (see ASTM International Classification E413 and E90). ]

Why can't I use a vinyl window above the 2nd floor of my high rise condominium?
